For longer than I can remember, I haven’t taken a real break from blogging. I know, it’s crazy. It’s crazy because we all need a break in life. We aren’t energizer bunnies, no matter how much we may feel like we are sometimes (or how much we wish that moms could just add a battery and voila!). We can mom all day long on no sleep and lots of coffee but at some point, we need a break.

And that’s okay.

Over the week of Thanksgiving, I took that much-needed break. Yeah I posted a couple of times of Instagram here and there and I had some blog posts prepped in advance but man, it felt nice to just relax and not think about anything but family (and food, of course) for once. I didn’t have to cook, I didn’t have to clean and I didn’t have to work. And it was just what I needed.

But then I got home and I got back to reality and I realized, “Oh wait. All of that time I was breaking from life, life kept going.” Photoshoots piled up, blog posts got backed up on my calendar and the Tuesday we got back home to reality, I was the definition of an “overwhelmed mom.” In fact, I was an overwhelmed housekeeper, an overwhelmed business owner, an overwhelmed chef, laundromat and all of the other duties that fall under the category of “mom.”

And the last thing I wanted to do was cook. In fact, I didn’t even think I had time to eat.

So here’s the thing -- I try really hard to cook meals when I can. And when I say “can” I really mean “want” or “have the energy to” or “have the time to” or “have ingredients to actually make dinner.” Okay, so there are at least a couple of days every week when I just cannot make a full blown dinner from start to finish and the week after Thanksgiving, that was just about every single night.

And you know what? That’s okay.
