Before + After | Spare Bedroom Makeover (on a budget)

Two years ago we moved into our first house after living in apartments ever since we married in 2013. I was 7 months pregnant with Ava and the amount of space we now had available was a bit overwhelming. We didn’t know what to do with all of this space! We now had a two car garage to store “things,” had more kitchen cabinets than we could fill, and we had three bedrooms to fill. The master bedroom was easy since we already had furniture and décor, we obviously had to buy all new furniture and décor for the room that was going to be Ava’s nursery and then we had a third room that just sort of sat there, empty for a couple of months.

Do we make it an office? Would we actually use an office? Do we make it a spare bedroom? Do we even need to waste our time and money on filling up the room with furniture and décor if it’s just going to sit there?

For a couple of months, it sat there with just a desk that we had brought over from our apartment until one day my husband surprised me. I woke up to a brand new bed in that extra room and that empty space finally had a purpose. Since we planned on having lots of guests come and stay once Ava arrived, we thought it would be best if we had a spare bed in there to make our guests comfortable. And then we kept the desk to also keep it as an office space if we needed it.

Long story short, it’s been two years,  we never decorated more than adding that bed and some bedding, and we have only used it as an office a handful of times.

Recently, I’ve been itching to update the décor in our home. I mean, who doesn’t love getting new décor? I’m a pillow-fanatic so the thought of me re-decorating was not something my husband was too excited about. And on top of that, we still have a toddler who spills and breaks things and wreaks havoc on everything she touches so this definitely was not the time to re-do our home décor.

So I made it my fun little project to brighten, lighten and update our spare bedroom + office. And you’d never guess how much of a difference a little HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams paint can do to a room. I was shocked (in a good way) and I’m totally stoked on about the new space we created. We brightened up one wall and added a couple décor items here and there to make the room so much more comfortable and enjoyable to be in.

We used the color Snowbound (HGSW4062) from the Thoughtful Living Color Collection, which is a part of the 2018 Color Collections of the Year from HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams using the INFINITY Interior Paint and Primer...just in case you want to brighten up one of your rooms at home too!

It’s only been two weeks since we painted and we’ve already hung out in there a couple of times during the day and I’ve even sat at my desk (and new vanity) to work and do makeup. So here it is, the before and afters of our spare bedroom + office update, sponsored by HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams. This room went from “blah” to “true love” in just two days – a quick and inexpensive room upgrade and I documented the whole thing for you all to see!
