Kids Halloween Party Decor And Table Setting Ideas

If you’re planning a kids Halloween party, the decor and table setting are what make it feel like a real event instead of just snacks on a plate. I’m going to be throwing two kids Halloween parties this year - one for my daughter's soccer team and one for all of our neighborhood kids - and I wanted both to feel festive without spending my whole week pulling it together. Every single piece you see here is from Pottery Barn Kids and I’ll walk you through exactly how I set the table and styled the space so you can recreate it for your own kids Halloween party.

Step One: The Table Setting

The base of the whole table is a black and white gingham tablecloth with cute a ruffled edge, which is such an easy way to make a kids table feel special without going overly spooky. Over the top I layered a charcoal linen table runner printed with ghosts, pumpkins, bats and a full moon, which set the Halloween tone before a single plate went down.

For each place setting I layered those cute bat print dinner plates with the most darling details under a variety of whimsical plates featuring a parading zebra, flamingo, penguin and owl in Halloween costumes. My kids went crazy over these darling Halloween plates as soon as I opened them up and those placemats… oh my gosh they’re so cute!

Kids Halloween Cups + Flatware

Clear acrylic Halloween cups were placed at the top of each place setting and I used orange + bat kids flatware to finish off each spot. The flatware is sized right for little hand and the star handles kept things playful without being too matchy with everything else on the table.

Step Two: The Centerpiece And Tabletop Decor

Down the center of the table I added a few small, easy pieces rather than one giant centerpiece, which kept the table functional for a group of kids passing food around. Little Halloween themed ceramic candy dishes with darling details on the lids, faux candles shaped like pumpkins, cauldrons and ghosts (my 5-year-olds favorite detail), a few decorative cloches and a couple large white jack-o-lanterns to add a little extra festive fun.

Step Three: Room Styling

This is the part that really makes a kids Halloween party feel like an event the second guests walk in. At the end of the table I grouped a few tall fabric ghost figures on pedestals of different heights, along with a mix of orange pumpkins hand lettered with trick or treat, a glitter pumpkin, and a classic jack o lantern pumpkin. Grouping decor at different heights like this on the floor makes a much bigger visual impact than spacing everything out.

To finish the room, I hung the cutest little glow-in-the-dark ghost trick-or-treating bags so they can bring everything home with them to use for the rest of the spooky season at home (because we definitely don’t need all of those place settings and decor for ourselves.) Above the table I strung a scalloped Happy Halloween banner across the doorway, which is the first thing guests see when they walk in for the party.
